Proxmox subscriptions — VE, PBS and PMG
Enterprise repository and vendor support for production. Authorized reseller, VAT invoice in PLN, key in 24 h.
What a Proxmox subscription is
A subscription is not a classic license — Proxmox is open-source software you can use for free. The subscription provides two things: access to the Enterprise repository with the most stable, tested packages, and vendor technical support. For production, Proxmox recommends the Enterprise repository, so a subscription is the norm in companies and public institutions.
Enterprise vs the no-subscription repository
Without a subscription a host uses the “no-subscription” repository — it works, but packages arrive earlier and are less tested. The Enterprise repository receives the same updates after extra validation. Important fact: access to the Enterprise repository is available on all four tiers — they differ only in vendor support.
VE subscription tiers
| Tier | Price / CPU / year | Enterprise repository | Vendor support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Community | €120 | Yes | Community forum (no tickets) |
| Basic | €370 | Yes | 3 tickets / year, 1 business day response |
| Standard | €550 | Yes | 10 tickets / year, 4 h response, SSH support |
| Premium | €1100 | Yes | Unlimited tickets, 2 h response, SSH support |

PBS and PMG subscriptions
- Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) — deduplicated, encrypted backup of VMs and containers. Billed per server/instance.
- Proxmox Mail Gateway (PMG) — mail gateway with anti-spam and anti-virus in front of your mail server. Billed per server/instance.
How we count subscriptions
Proxmox VE is licensed per CPU socket in each cluster host — regardless of cores or VMs. A dual-socket server needs two subscriptions. A 3-host cluster with 2 CPUs each = 6 VE subscriptions. PBS and PMG are counted per server.

People also ask
Does Proxmox VE work without a subscription?
Yes. Proxmox VE is open-source and runs for free using the “no-subscription” repository. A subscription adds access to the stable Enterprise repository and vendor support — recommended for production.
Does every tier include the Enterprise repository?
Yes. All four tiers (Community, Basic, Standard, Premium) include access to the Enterprise repository. The difference is vendor support: number of tickets, response time and remote SSH support.
How much is a Proxmox VE subscription?
From €120/CPU/year (Community) to €1100/CPU/year (Premium) at the manufacturer list price, converted to PLN at the NBP rate. PBS and PMG are billed per server. We prepare an individual quote from your host and CPU count.
How are subscriptions counted in a cluster?
Per CPU socket in each host. A 3-host cluster with 2 CPUs each needs 6 Proxmox VE subscriptions. The number of cores and VMs does not matter.
What is the difference between PBS and PMG?
Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) is a deduplicating backup system for VMs and containers. Proxmox Mail Gateway (PMG) is a mail gateway with anti-spam and anti-virus. Both are billed per server/instance.
How fast will I get the subscription key?
Usually within 24 hours of order confirmation. We assign the key to your Proxmox account and help activate it, including internet-isolated environments.
Do you help deploy Proxmox?
Yes. Beyond the subscription we run VMware→Proxmox migrations, HA clusters, Ceph and Proxmox Backup Server. The Sztorm IT team has administered servers since 2003.
